. East Wing
. The Parade Ground

At the end of the Eastern Hallway is a large, domed room built much as the Heart Chamber is, except that there are large windows that circle the room from its southern-most point around to its northern-most point, looking east. There is another spectacular view of Bridge Island from here.

This large room is smoothly paved in stone. The room is used for formal receptions, announcements, performances, military training, classes for youngsters, and dances and balls. A low, padded, semi-circular bench that runs along the windows serves to seat those who wish to enjoy the view as well as those who are watching events on the Parade Grounds. Because it is wide, all manner of Taur can recline on it.

The room also has large fireplaces and big doors on the northwest and southwest walls.

. The Back Door

From the northwest door off the Parade Grounds, a corridor leads to the back door exit of the Keep. A long guard room and secret door give access to both ends of the corridor, allowing flanking attacks if the Keep is invaded.

The main corridor is lined with cubbies and pegs, used by the residents to store wet weather gear, towels, and such.

The Back Door proper is a pair of double iron doors that can be barred and locked.

The Patio

Beyond the Back Door is a paved patio with an extended overhang. It's a nice place to relax outside but with a roof overhead. There are cool breezes and a lovely view of the lake and flower beds. People often gather here during hot summer evening rains.

. The Grotto

Across the patio from the Back Door, the Keep seems, strangely, to be not crafted of stone but carved over eons as by water, like a cave. This Grotto is a small natural cavern with a strong welling spring deep inside. The water from the spring descends in fountain-like levels, feeding a wide stream, which flows through the Grotto, out the cave mouth. From there, the water creates a small lake, which abuts the back side of the Keep and the patio.

This is the primary water supply for the Keep. It is clean and refreshing. By itself it is almost intoxicating.

The residents of the Keep use the stream in the Grotto for bathing and soaking. There are natural ledges on the north side of the Grotto on which it is pleasant to rest. The Grotto's water is cool in hot weather -- and of course, given the island's sub-tropical climate, that's much of the time. People who are shy may wear clothes while bathing; the less inhibited skinny-dip.

Everyone uses the Grotto stream to rinse away the day's dust and stress, but if you are a real mess -- bloody from battle, for example -- it is considered polite to wash off the gore at the wash-house to the south.

.

The Workshop

This large room has the same dimensions as the kitchens, but unlike the controlled order there, the workshop is home to creative anarchy. Several artisans labor here -- a mason, a carpenter, two smiths, and anyone else wanting a place to craft things. Walls extend into the room, making booths for individual workers. There are two forges in the north wall, along with a large, long sink. Windows in the south, as in the kitchen, let in air and light. This is a busy place, with tables set as needed and with sawdust, metal scraps, and stone chips scattered around.

Along the west wall are three doorways. The open doorway in the northwest corner leads to a coal and wood storage area. The middle door, made of stone, leads to a secure vault in which precious works and materials can be stored. The door in the southwest corner leads to the western barracks.

Along the east wall are four doorways. The northernmost open doorway leads to the parade Ground. The next door, made of wood, leads to a washroom, two small living quarters, and a storeroom. The next door, also of wood, leads to another washroom. The southernmost door opens to a short corridor. At the far end is a large armory, and to the north is a smaller room that serves as an office for the soldiery of the Keep.

.

Armory, Storage, Living Quarters

For the convenience of several artisans, there are staff quarters located off the Workshop. The same corridor that leads to them also opens into a storage area. There are two washrooms nearby.

South of these rooms, across from the door that leads to the eastern barracks, a short corridor leads to the armory and to a military office. It is used mostly by Borus, who writes duty rosters, tracks military supplies, and dresses down slackers here.
