Background on Wemics in the Taur Isles Game

Wemics, or Liontaurs, originated on the mainland, but 430 years ago a small number of them set off, believing the prophesies that the Gods were going to destroy much of the mainland. A small group of refugees made it to an island to the west of the Centaurs and the Minotaurs. They have been there ever since, but these island Liontaurs are still small in number, and they have to struggle to survive.

Wemics trade with both the Centaurs and the Minotaurs.

Liontaurs were a proud people of old, and these island-dwelling Liontaurs are even prouder, after the manner of many small peoples who have had to fight against great hardship just to survive. Wemics see themselves as naturally superior to other folk, but the best of them are noble and gracious to lesser races, not haughty or boastful.

Wemics are not natural island-dwellers -- they love wide open plains and vast savannah. One reason that the Liontaur population remains low is because their island just can't support very many creatures with Liontaur bulk and meat requirements. Besides which, Liontaurs (like most felines) dislike water. Few Liontaurs learn to swim, and that they do not harvest much food from the sea. Wemics seldom make good sailors or merchants.

And there is another hazard on the island of the Liontaurs, more deadly than overpopulation and scant resources. Foul Hellhounds have ripped through the Wemic population, and many have died.

Background on Zeoll

Zeoll was born to a pride of Liontaurs who were members of the Aene Clan. He was apprenticed to a priest, named Frith, who served as the pride's shaman. Zeoll was hunting alone for feathers from the elusive Haway bird, which have certain ceremonial uses, when the pride was destroyed in a hell hound raid. Zeoll returned to find all his loved ones dead. After a grieving time, he had a dream that he interpreted as a sign that he should leave the land of his people.

The Liontaur stands seven feet tall and weighs 745 pounds. His mane is auburn, his fur is tawny, and his skin is light brown. He wears leather armor, and carries a greatsword, a longsword, and a wooden shield. Beads braided in his hair signify his family descent, clan, and priest status.

Zeoll is proud and forthright, and he does not mince words. But his arrogance is tempered by a sense of irony and the ability to laugh at himself.
